Reading
We’ve been working
on a variety of skills and strategies such as:
identifying cause and effect, using illustrations,
summarizing, context clues, word parts, and using a
thesaurus (antonyms and synonyms). For phonics,
we’ve worked on all the long vowel sounds and
digraphs and blends such as: ch, sh, th, wh, ph,
scr-, spr-, and str-. We’ve also read many
interesting and enjoyable fiction and non-fiction
stories in our basal. |

Writing and
Grammar
This period of the
day has been very busy! There has been a lot to
cover like: action verbs, letter punctuation, proper
use of commas, abbreviations, sentence punctuation,
present-tense and past-tense verbs, the verb “have”
and sentence combining. We’ve created a
snowman/woman “biography”, “I have a dream” quilt
pieces, and we are starting some poetry pages that
will focus on rhyme and descriptive words. I can’t
wait for you to see the finished products! |
Math
Addition facts!
Graphs! Geoboards! Money! Symmetry! Measuring!
Polygons! Fractions! Wow!! What a fun time we all
had using geoboard to create polygons, using tiles
and rulers to measure things around the room, and
using coins to count money. Just just a blob of
paint and a folded piece of paper created many
unique pictures. This was done during our study of
symmetry. |
Science
In Science, we’ve just finished our unit on plants
and have moved on to a new and exciting unit on
animals. We will be learning about the 5 different
types of animals: mammals, reptiles, amphibians,
fish,
and birds, what they eat, the kind of habitat they
live in, their predators, and much more |
